THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND BLOEMENDAAL
Whether at Hotel Bleecker – located in a nice quiet spot in the middle of the village against a dune, or at Hotel Bloemendaal on a cosy corner – there is plenty to do! In the surrounding area, you will find a huge choice of sporting, cultural culinary and relaxing activities. You can also be in Haarlem or on the beach of Bloemendaal aan Zee within minutes, and Amsterdam is also very easy to reach by public transport and by car.
Nature
Zuid-Kennemerland National Park stretches from Zandvoort to IJmuiden. The always surprising dune landscape, from country estates on the outskirts to the rugged dunes and the North Sea beach, is a habitat for countless special animals and plants.
Whether you go out on your own or follow a walking route, almost anything is possible in the National Park! There are walking routes of various distances, also suitable for children. At the playing fields, you may deviate from the paths.
Besides hiking routes, there are also kilometres of cycle paths where you can cycle for hours through the dunes. Along the way there is plenty to discover such as Scottish Highlanders, bison, and wild horses. To protect the fragile natural environment, dogs are not allowed everywhere, with the exception of guide and assistance dogs. Here you will find a list of areas where dogs are allowed (partly on a leash).
In the dunes you will find beautiful swimming lakes, suitable for families and ideal for warmer days. You can also go SUPping here.
Beach
Bloemendaal aan Zee beach is about 20 minutes by bike from Bloemendaal. You will find several beach clubs and beach restaurants here, where you can also rent beach beds and windbreaks.
Zandvoort beach can be reached via the Zeeweg (30 minutes) or via Overveen and through the dunes (25 minutes). Here, numerous beach clubs with restaurants and water sports facilities invite you to come and enjoy yourself. For example, pay a visit to our ‘Dutchen owned’ Family Beach Club Laguna, where, as a Dutchen guest, you can book discounted activities such as a surf or SUP course. In the stylishly decorated Beachhouse, there are plenty of games to play and you will find pool and football tables.
Zandvoort is still the location for Formula 1 with the race circuit in the middle of the dunes, only separated by the Zeeweg. Well worth a visit, enjoy the wide view from the watchtower.
On the northern side of Bloemendaal aan Zee you will find the Parnassia/ IJmuiden beach, where dogs are allowed all year round.
Culinary highlights
Those who have booked the loft rooms at Hotel Bleecker can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch in our own Brasserie Bleecker. In Bloemendaal, you can choose from four restaurants; restaurant Locael directly below the hotel rooms and Suites of the Hotel Bloemendaal, Restaurant Noor on Bloemendaalseweg, Bistro Vreeburg and Restaurant NAP on Bloemendaal’s Kerkplein.
Recommended restaurants in the area are the House of Borski in Overveen, the Bokkedoorns on the Zeeweg towards the beach (for gourmets, the restaurant owns 2 Michelin stars) or the pizza restaurant Gstrand, which is located at camping de Lakens but is open to everyone. Here, children can play in the playground while parents enjoy a drink on the terrace.
The unique, stylish restaurants in Zandvoort and Bloemendaal aan Zee are definitely worth a visit. Settle down at Ubuntu or Hippie Fish in Zandvoort for a sumptuous lunch or a good glass of wine. Take the kids to ‘De Spot’, Tijn Akersloot or Restaurant RapaNui in Bloemendaal, there is plenty to do. Reservations are recommended; bear in mind that many of the beach restaurants are closed from October.
City trips
Bloemendaal is about 30 minutes from Amsterdam. Because of its good connections, the train is a stress-free alternative to the car for getting around town. Within walking distance are many attractions such as a canal cruise, the old Jordaan district and the NEMO and Maritime Museum. On the north side, you’ll find the Eye Film Museum with its Eyebar. The Skylounge is located on the 11th floor of the Double Tree Hilton hotel; the lounge is open to everyone and offers breathtaking views of the beautiful city of Amsterdam.
Haarlem is just a bit smaller than Amsterdam and has a lot to offer. From various churches and courtyards to SUP tours on the Spaarne, there are countless options. Haarlem is also great for shopping with many small unique boutiques and shops.
Fun trips in the area include a visit to the Zaanse Schans in Zaandam, the city of Alkmaar with its weekly cheese market or the beautiful city of Delft. From 23 March to 14 May 2023, you can admire the famous Keukenhof in Lisse with its unique tulip display.

Between the dunes and the forest lies the atmospheric open-air theatre Caprera. Here you can enjoy pop, cabaret, dance, classical, opera, theatre and children’s performances every summer. Stadsschouwburg & Philharmonie Haarlem is the beating heart for all inhabitants of Haarlem and its surroundings. Brederode Ruin refers to the remains of Brederode Castle near Santpoort-Zuid. De Waterkoets takes you on the nicest boat trips through Haarlem and its surroundings.
